Cooper Tires Indy Pro 2000 Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio Race 2. The 2019 IndyCar season continues with the IndyCar Classic. Here’s how to watch IndyCar online and on TV from Circuit of the Americas. The NTT IndyCar Series starts a new chapter this week, so. IndyCar Series is a racing simulator developed by Codemasters. The game was released in 2003 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game is based on the 2002 Indy Racing League season. A sequel to the game, IndyCar Series 2005, was released in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows based on the 2003 IndyCar Series season. The IndyCar series game also features some extras like the ole 'Madden Card' approach to unlockables. While all the tracks and most of the drivers are available, you unlock trading cards.

has dominated the video game scene, particularly on consoles, and open-wheel racing has been only truly represented by Formula One games. Luckily Codemasters has crossed the Atlantic from the UK to yanks what we are apparently unwilling to produce ourselves: an IndyCar simulation. This title is somewhat unique for Codemasters because of its previous efforts such as Colin McRae Rally and Pro Race Driver. After all, it's now entering a market full of Rally and GT racers. Because of this, it's hard to directly compare the game to that of any particular competitor, except the fact that IndyCar oval racing is rather similar to NASCAR -- albeit faster and without all the paint swapping and helmet-throwing. Features What you should immediately know is that this game is not particularly genre busting. If you have no interest in oval based racing whatsoever, this game will probably not turn you into a fan. However, those who own NASCAR titles would do well to read on (and frustrated CART, IRL and open-wheel fans who want something more than the obligatory set of Formula One road courses each year as well). As it's titled IndyCar series, the game includes all the tracks and most of the drivers you'd find in the Indy Racing League (IRL). You won't find any road courses or street courses here. It's all ovals, and they are a subset of the same set of ovals you'll find in NASCAR titles. Of course, you'll find the Indy 500, in all its glory, with a full 33-car field and even the four lap-qualifying format and Bump Day. An excellent bonus is that everything you need for shifting, monitoring your fuel and number of laps of fuel remaining, drafting level, and weight jacker position are all conveniently shown on your HUD. All of this would be moot if Codemasters had made the mess of the rules of racing the way other titles have, all too often. However, we've found the behavior of the AI cars too be very, very, good overall. They hold their position when alongside. They pit without crashing into one another, they form up under caution and take evasive maneuvers, largely without incident. That's not to say we haven't witnessed the occasional AI boo-boo (such as a car merging out of the merge lane right into the middle of the track and getting obliterated by the faster traffic), but we're talking exceptions here, not rules. The IndyCar series game also features some extras like the ole 'Madden Card' approach to unlockables. While all the tracks and most of the drivers are available, you unlock trading cards by accomplishing certain goals, like finishing a race, taking the pole, earning the pole for the Indy 500, breaking a lap record, etc. These cards are attached to either new liveries you can pick, or DVD documentary footage of various facets of IndyCar racing and specifically the 500. These mini-documentaries are impressively long and interesting to watch at least once if you have any interest in this history and greatest moments of the sport you're participating in. Additionally, the game tries to teach you how to be a good Indycar driver by having IRL driver and former Indy 500 winner Eddie Cheever give you some video lessons, after which follow a Gran Turismo style test which can net you a gold, silver or bronze (and unlock an appropriate card). Unlike simple driving tests that are usually seen, some impressively sophisticated tests are provided, such as pitting and getting out and gaining positions in the process, or my favorite, taking a badly tuned car and using the garage and test laps to turn it into a serious speed demon (a 235 mph one-lap average at Indy is required for the gold. It was a delight to finally pull off a 235.4 lap for the goal after an embarrassing amount of time tweaking in the garage!).
IndyCar Series is a racing simulator developed by Codemasters.[1] The game was released in 2003 for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game is based on the 2002 Indy Racing League season. A sequel to the game, IndyCar Series 2005, was released in 2004 for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows based on the 2003 IndyCar Series season. For PC, the recommended requirements are Windows 98, Millennium, 2000 and XP, but the game also works with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Gameplay[edit]Drivers[edit]
The game features 26 drivers from the 2002 Indy Racing League. The driver list includes 24 of the regular teams and drivers along with two of the Indy 500 only entries from Target Chip Ganassi Racing and Team Green.
Reception[edit]
The game received 'average' reviews on all platforms according to the review aggregation website Metacritic.[18][19][20]Eurogamer's Roman Jennings said of the PlayStation 2 version, 'If we were to recommend an open-wheel racing game to somebody, it wouldn't be this. It would be Formula One 2003. If we were to recommend an arcade racer to somebody, it wouldn't be this. It would be Burnout 2. However, if we were to recommend a well-made racing sim to a real fan of the genre, then IndyCar Series would get a mention.'[4]
